El Guincho is the recording alias of Spanish musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Also a member of Coconot, Díaz-Reixa rose to prominence with his 2008 album, Alegranza!. His musical style, influenced by a broad range of artists like Animal Collective and Os Mutantes, relies heavily on the use of sampling and incorporates elements of Afrobeat, dub, Tropicália and rock and roll as Díaz-Reixa achieves what he’s described as a kind of “space-age exotica”. He utilizes a Roland SP-404. He is touring Australia in February as part of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

Miegakure is a platform game where you explore the fourth dimension to solve puzzles.

Our world is three-dimensional: width, depth, and height. But what if there was a fourth physical dimension that we cannot see, in addition to the other three? This game is about exploring the consequences of being able to move in four spatial dimensions. It plays like a regular three-dimensional platformer, but at the press of a button one of the dimensions is exchanged with the fourth dimension, allowing for four-dimensional movement.

I Met the Walrus is an animated film directed by Josh Raskin and produced by Jerry Levitan. The film stars Levitan and John Lennon. The film’s pen illustration is by James Braithwaite and computer illustration is by Alex Kurina

The film is based on an interview of John Lennon by Jerry Levitan in 1969. Levitan, then 14 years old, tracked Lennon to his hotel room atToronto’s King Edward Hotel after hearing a rumour that Lennon had been sighted at the Toronto Airport. Jerry inveigled his way into John Lennon’s suite and conducted an interview. The animation is based on Levitan’s recording of the interview, which was edited down to 5 minutes. Josh Raskin’s focus was on the interview itself. “I just wanted to literally animate the words, unfurling in the way I imagined they would appear inside the head of a baffled 14-year-old boy interviewing his idol.”

The film was created in 2006-2007 at the Electric Company, a Toronto animation company. The film premiered March 22nd, 2007 at This is London, a Toronto nightclub. Since then, the film has appeared at numerous film festivals. The film has won several awards including a 2009 Daytime Emmy in the New Approaches, Daytime Entertainment category, Best Animated Short awards for the American Film Institute and the Middle East International Film Festival. The film was nominated for an Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Numerous ad campaigns have copied the film’s style, including Microsoft’s “It’s Everybody’s Business” series of advertisements are heavily inspired by I Met the Walrus

Studio, a Swedish duo comprised of Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg, created an underground stir with their debut full-length, Yearbook 1(2007). Released regionally in Scandinavia on the independent label Information, Yearbook 1 became an Internet sensation, circulating widely on file-sharing networks and getting favorable blog write-ups. Bearing influences of electronica, experimental rock, Afro-pop, and Krautrock, the duo’s music is partly reminiscent of early-’80s Cure and New Order, particularly in terms of rhythm; however, with songs such as “Out There,” which clocks in at 16 minutes, and with few vocals, let alone traditional song arrangements, comparisons to contemporary indie dance-rock acts such as Fujiya & Miyagi and LCD Soundsystem are more fitting.
